Day 7. Favorite Movie
It's been a week and I like it because the topic is my favorite. Selecting one movie out of hundreds (?) that I've watched is not an easy task. I think I have to recall them one by one.
Okay, I've decided. It's a movie the file I haven't removed for years, a movie I often play over and over again when I get bored, and the movie that somehow related to my experience, it's The Holiday (2006).
I don't want to pretend to be sophisticated to choose, for instance, Reservoir Dogs as my favorite movie because it's too absurd. I think The Holiday is the most classy romantic comedy I've ever seen.
What I love about this movie is that almost every scene is meaningful, the script is perfect, and of course, it's starred by top actresses and actors.
I love how Kate Winslet portrays a desperate, broken-hearted single. I absolutely agree with her quotes on the opening scene. Why does every love story have to talk about reciprocated tale? Why they overlook the lowest caste of the love story?
And then there's another kind of love. The cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. It's called, unrequited love. Most love stories are pretty much about people who fall in love--with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about or stories? What about our stories? Those of us who fall in love alone. We are the victims of the one-sided affair. We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones. The walking wounded, the handicapped without the advantage of a great parking space. Yes, you are looking at one such individual.
And the way Cameron Diaz acts as a tough businesswoman who is actually fragile inside? She does it so well. I think the way she plays as an impulsive woman who then regrets her decision of escaping to England is just fascinating.
The two opposite characters blend so well intertwining an entertaining story.
Even the minor characters like Arthur Abbott, Maggie, and Ethan does their role fantastically. Not to mention about the charming Jude Law and the innocent Jack Black. And don't forget Jude Law's two sweet daughters.
Overall, The Holiday is a happy-go-lucky movie I can always rely on these days when I don't have movie savings. I can still laugh at it even though I've watched it zillion times.
